UNODA and #Youth4Disarmament meet with student from Falu Frigymnasium to discuss the work of the United Nations

On 11 May 2022, staff members from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) met with students from Falu Frigymnasium, a school based in Sweden, to discuss the work of the United Nations and ways for young people to get involved in the disarmament field.

The briefing formed part of the group’s in-person study trip to the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Students met with Ms. Soo Hyun Kim, Acting Director of the UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific & #Youth4Disarmament Lead, Ms. Claudia Garcia Guiza, Political Affairs Officer, and Ms. Frida Thomassen, Associate Political Affairs Officer.

Ms. Soo Hyun Kim highlighted the work of the #Youth4Disarmament initiative to engage, educate and empower young people and to facilitate space for youth to participate and contribute to disarmament efforts.

Ms. Claudia Garcia Guiza discussed current international security challenges with the group. Ms. Frida Thomassen presented on the relationship between gender and disarmament and shared information on career opportunities with the United Nations.

Through the discussion, the students learned about UNODA’s work on a variety of topics and gained a deeper understanding of the United Nations’ work on disarmament issues.
